Your email sequences are timed just right.

The opt-in page is popping!

And that’s great!

But here’s what you may have overlooked: What happens in those crucial first moments after someone buys from you?

Enter the humble Thank You page – arguably one of the most underrated assets in most launch sequences.

Why the Thank You Page Deserves More Attention

According to this post on HelpScout, increasing customer retention rates by a mere 5% can lead profits to skyrocket by 25% to 95% (source: Bain and Company).

Ummm … more profits, yes, please. 💯

And yes, while your post-purchase sequences are super important for making this happen, your thank you page can also play a big part in this retention.

  • Emphasize the positive aspects of their chosen option

  • Downplay any doubts or concerns

Yep, my friend. Your Thank You page is perfectly positioned to support this psychological process.

Yet most course creators treat their Thank You page as an afterthought. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Let’s look at how to flip the proverbial script and use this pivotal conversion moment strategically.

 1. Reinforce their Decision and Strengthen Trust Through Personal Connection

Most Thank You pages feel cold and transactional. Instead, use this moment to deepen the relationship with your new customer.

 In fact, right after they sign up for your online course or membership is an awesome time for you to strengthen their commitment.

The data doesn’t disagree. According to this article on eMarketer on post-purchase experiences, 93% of consumers consider the post-purchase experience important (source: Sorted Survey), and sure, they may be talking about retail, but I personally don’t think the numbers will be very different for online course creators and creative entrepreneurs.

How can you turn your Thank You page into a connection point for your customers? 👇🏼

Include a personalized welcome video (60-90 seconds is perfect!) reminding them of their core reasons for joining and reinforcing YOUR commitment to helping them accomplish their goals. Bonus points if you can give them a quick win to get them started!

2. Share Crystal-Clear Next Steps

Confusion is the enemy of action, both before the sale and after the sale.

Use your Thank You page to give new students a clear roadmap of what happens next.

A few things you may want to share on your Thank You pages:

  • Contact information for tech support

  • Access instructions for course materials

  • Direct link to join your community/Facebook group

  • Details of when (or from whom) they’ll receive important emails

  • Calendar link for any welcome calls/orientation sessions

Pro Tip: Include a visual roadmap or checklist they can screenshot for easy reference. 👀

3. Make Those Next Steps Clearer with UX and Design

This one is closely connected with strategy #2.

 You don’t want your Thank You page to be a wall of text.

Use visual hierarchy to guide attention — what to do first, second, third.

Remember to have plenty of white space around important elements and reduce cognitive load. Use action-oriented buttons rather than text links to increase click-through rates.

4. Generate Real-time Social Proof

Y’all know how much I love my social proof, right? Why not use your Thank You page as a social proof engine?

This strategy pulls multiple psychological levers as well: social identity, reciprocity, and commitment/consistency.

You can use your Thank You page to invite new students to share their enrollment by connecting with you on social (see example below) or create an enrollment celebration ritual by gifting them a surprise Starbucks gift card so they can treat themselves.

Remind them to follow and tag you in their Instagram stories when they do that so you can celebrate with them!

When you do this, you gather social proof during your launch by sharing and celebrating who’s joining your course or membership.

This is where your Thank You page really shines and steps into its role as an exceptional asset for improving future launches and relaunches.

Use your Thank You page to understand your audience’s reasons for buying, the real-time struggles, and/or where they are on their journey to solve the struggle you’ll help them solve.

Smart ways to collect data:

  • A single-question survey about their decision trigger

  • Optional feedback about their buying experience

  • Quick poll about their biggest challenge

  • Invitation to book a quick welcome call
